Prof. Giancarlo Polenghi e Fabio Carlo Ferrari sono lecturer nel del corso di Conflict Resolution tenuto da Prof.ssa Wilma Ruth King, Longwood University, Virginia.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course introduces students to the origins of the field of conflict and to current communication-oriented perspectives in a wide range of arenas - from intimate relationships to group, inter-group, organizational and negotiation settings. Students will understand the opportunities for conflict management through negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. Prerequisite: COMM 101 & 200 (with grades of "C-" or better). 3 credits.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL GOALS and OBJECTIVES

We cannot live a conflict-free life. When we think about conflicts we tend to immediately think about the harm that it causes, but seldom think about conflict as being useful. How we resolve or manage conflict is important to building deep and meaningful relationships, particularly in an organizational setting where collaboration is a key element to successful and creative problem-solving.

OVERVIEW OF CONTENT:  We will have the great pleasure of a guest lecturer via online discussions.  Prof. Giancarlo Polenghi from Florence, Italy, has graciously agreed to collaborate with me, bringing an international perspective to the topic.  Prof. Polenghi has co-authored three books, along with Fabio Carlo Ferrari, J.D., on the topic of Conflict Management. Study the assigned chapter(s) in your textbook before class so you will be prepared to discuss the topics.

The gift of insults

Near Tokyo lived a great Samurai, now old, who decided to teach Zen Buddhism to young people.
One afternoon, a warrior – known for his complete lack of scruples – arrived there. The young and impatient warrior had never lost a fight. Hearing of the Samurai’s reputation, he had come to defeat him, and increase his fame.
